With hundreds of monuments, elegant madrasas, ancient mosques, caravanserais and lively artisan markets, Bukhara offers visitors an immersive journey into the heart of Islamic architecture and Central Asian culture.
History of Bukhara
Founded more than 2,500 years ago, Bukhara flourished as a major commercial, religious and intellectual center along the Silk Road. It prospered under the Samanid Dynasty, survived the Mongol invasion, benefited from Timurid influence and later became the capital of the Emirate of Bukhara. Scholars, merchants and travelers from across Asia, Persia and Europe gathered here, shaping one of the most influential cities in Central Asia.
